Favourite Christmas Jumpers
Christmas Jumper Day is very popular in the UK. It started as a charity event but has taken on a life of its own. But, with each passing year and the increased focus on the environmental impact of the fashion industry, there is a negative side to the day too. One way to combat this is to knit your own sweater and wear it year after year. There are so many great designs to choose from and it is very unlikely someone else will be wearing the same one as you. Most are knitted in DK (light worsted weight) yarn and usually require some experience of knitting, particularly in different colours.
The most popular Christmas jumpers in my store are:
Number One
This pattern includes two designs - a scattering of Christmas tree baubles, or one large bauble. The fun in this pattern is choosing your colours - bold and festive always look good. The tricky part of this pattern is knitting in all the different colours, so if you are new to this technique, the single bauble option might be best. Buy
Number Two
Sirdar never disappoint with their knitting patterns and this snowman sweater is no exception. Sitting in a pile of snow, with snowflakes all around, the snowman is resplendent in his hat, scarf and gloves. A detailed pattern that is worth the effort. Buy
Number Three
The funniest of all the options I offer. This is a relatively simple design to knit, although you do need to be able to knit with more than one colour of yarn in the same row. Perfect for people with a sense of humour or who don't want a traditional character sweater. Buy
Number Four
Kids love fairies, particularly at Christmas. This jumper works all year round and is popular all year round. But, it fits the bill as a Christmas jumper. Buy
Number Five
This is a good option for people who like a colourful jumper and aren't keen on characters or humour. The neck is quite wide on the one I knitted, but the colours were great and I loved how it turned out. Buy
Number Six
Something for the kids - a cool snowman with shades. This is my favourite kids design, it's fun and cool as well as not being too difficult to knit. Buy
Number Seven
If you don't like characters, this is a good option. A giant Christmas pudding, what's not to love? Buy
Number Eight
A nice, fairly traditional design. I found the antlers were tricky because my two-strand knitting isn't great and this was one of the first projects I tried. The constant changing meant I had to concentrate and I wasn't happy with the end result. But, if you are confident and good at multi-strand knitting then this is a great option. Buy
Number Nine
Great value with Christmas jumpers for all the family, including the dog. The collection includes Santa, snowman and tinsel star options. It also includes reindeer themed hat and cowl and a Santa hat inspired bobble hat with matching cowl and wrist warmers. Buy
Number Ten
Don't forget the dog! This fun selection of dog coats with a Christmas theme. I knitted the Santa coat for a beagle puppy. The hardest thing was taking her measurements! This year she's getting the elf or the snowman, I can't decide. The fit was great and it stayed on with no objections from the wearer. Buy
